Your email address says a lot about your credibility. To look professional, you need a professional email address. In other words, don’t use a free email account like Gmail, Hotmail, etc.
It’s best to have an email account that is @YourBusinessName.com. So if your business name is Premier Investments, LLC and your domain name is PremierInvestments.com, you’d want your email address to be something like firstname.lastname@example.org.
Or, depending on how you want to set things up, it could be something like email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org or whatever you like.
When you create an email address like this, you don’t have to get as creative as you might when creating a free email account at somewhere like Gmail. For example, if your name is John and you sign up at Gmail, you can be sure that email@example.com will not be available and that you’ll have to end up with something like firstname.lastname@example.org.
But when you create an email address at your own domain name, you can choose whatever you want.
Where can you get a professional email account
It’s best not to get an email account where your website is hosted. Without getting too technical, suffice it to say that there’s a good chance any emails you send will get flagged as spam and people won’t get them. There are multiple reasons for this.
You’re better off getting an email account somewhere that specializes in offering email accounts.
One option is to get an email account where you bought your domain name (for example GoDaddy or NameCheap ). Usually, that’s the easiest to set up since they’ll handle the technical settings for you. This will cost something, but it’s not too much and is worth the credibility it gives you.
My favorite option, though, is to use Google’s email service. I’m not talking about Gmail. Google has a paid email service that gives you an email address at your own domain, but it works exactly like Gmail.
So, for example, my email might be email@example.com but when I log in to check my email, it looks exactly like Gmail. In fact, you can go to gmail.com to log in. But you’ll have a professional email account.
I like the way Google’s mail service works so I’ve used it for many years. They have good Spam filtering and the emails are reliable.
They’ve changed the name of this service at least once. It’s currently called G Suite.
Getting a professional email account doesn’t cost much, but it makes a big difference in the impression you make when you give someone your email address.
